NIKOLA HAS ITS SIGHTS SET ON THE SINGAPOREAN EXPORT MARKET

It was a whirlwind trip to Singapore in March for Nikola Estate owner, Graeme Yukich, and chief winemaker, Damian Hutton, who expertly unveiled some of the Swan Valley’s best wine offerings and experiences.

While Graeme was busy pouring wines with Ashley Bond from Fine Wine Wholesalers, Damian conducted a series of guided masterclasses to showcase our hero varietal, chenin blanc.

It did not take long for the Singaporean market to succumb to the allure of this versatile grape, which has been growing on our historic estate since the 1930s.  Damian expertly guided the guests through our evolution of chenin blanc — from our sparklings to our still and barrel-aged wines.

Held at the Four Points by Sheraton, visitors tasted our region’s bountiful produce, artisanal goods, award-winning wines, and learnt why we call the Swan Valley our home.

According to City of Swan mayor, David Lucas, Singaporeans had an undeniable appetite for the region’s produce and its many experiences.

“Singaporeans were among the first international visitors to return to the Swan Valley when Western Australia reopened its borders in March 2022,” he said.

“They were eager to experience nature, farm stays and of course, stock up on our award-winning wines and the last of the season’s coveted table grapes.”

“This event immersed the visitors into what makes our region so special, with our award-winning wines and fresh produce to pair alongside it. Even better from a tourism perspective is our location, only a 30-minute drive from the Perth CBD,” said Damian Hutton.

“As we grow our wine export market into Asia, we will continue to participate in events such as this and build on these trade and retail connections.”
