GENERAL MANAGER WINE / CHIEF WINEMAKER
It was three decades ago that Damian took his first steps in our vineyard, passionately regenerating the old vines. Little did this enthusiastic teenager realise that this summer job would soon become a lifetime endeavour of nurturing grapevines to their full potential and crafting exceptional wines from that very fruit. Since then, Damian has undertaken vintages in McLaren Vale, Great Southern, Margaret River and Perth Hills regions, before returning to this very winery where his career was first forged.
Since joining Nikola Estate, Damian has introduced a Gallery and Regional wine range, increasing our collection to over 30 wines.
WINEMAKER
After revitalising a vineyard
in the Great Southern region, Marcello’s winemaking journey led to him working as a winemaker in the region for several years. He then moved to Italy with his family, where he made modern wines with an eclectic mix of French and Italian varieties. Upon his return to Australia, Marcello undertook a vintage at Houghton Wines, before heading southwards to Margaret River at Flying Fish Cove winery. Since joining Nikola Estate, Marcello has relished crafting wines from alternate varietals such as Montepulciano, Nero D’Avola and Arinto.
VINEYARD MANAGER
Matt’s love affair with wine began in the 1990s whilst working in retail liquor and was further cemented with his move to Margaret River. Putting his farming background to good use, Matt managed vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, Margaret River and Frankland River, before joining Nikola Estate with a keen thirst to restore neglected vineyards in a sustainable manner, while exploring alternative varieties.
Extensive vineyard regeneration has been undertaken since Matt's arrival, with a focus on reinvigorating the old grapevines while planting experimental varietals suited to our fertile Mediterranean climate.
