BEST WESTERN AUSTRALIAN SHIRAZ TROPHY IN 2023 GREAT AUSTRALIAN SHIRAZ CHALLENGE
We are delighted to announce that our 2021 Frankland River Regional Shiraz has scooped the coveted Best Western Australian Shiraz Trophy at this year’s Australian Shiraz Challenge, with an incredible score of 96 points. In a field of over 340 entries from 54 regions, this win exemplifies our commitment to crafting premium wines from superior parcels of fruit from WA’s many wine regions.
“This wine is built for longevity, and I am proud to have made a wine of this calibre for our first-ever release of this Regional Shiraz. It was a beautiful vintage in the Frankland River region, with the fruit ripening slowly in optimum conditions,” says Chief Winemaker, Damian Hutton.
“We select shiraz from all over the state, but as a single regional wine, it displays why it’s a regional hero of Frankland River. It has that signature spice character with black and blue fruit, raspberry, liquorice, which is so typical of Frankland River. I believe the 2022 and 2023 releases will be just as good.”
The wine spent 16 months maturing in French oak barrels, imparting a complexity that is revealed in layers on the palate of this medium-bodied wine. Expect lifted red berries, liquorice, cinnamon and star anise aromas on the nose with a plush palate of plum, blackcurrant, cherry and vibrant, red fruits. Fine, soft tannins and a persistent finish complete this exceptional award-winning wine.
The 2022 Regional Frankland River Shiraz scored 90 points, walking away with a Silver medal at this prestigious event that has been showcasing Australian shiraz for the past 29 years.
